LIFTING SERVICES

Whitelaw Rigging provides lifting services designed to help customers improve safety and reduce costs.

Lifting Seminars. The use of hoists, slings and lifting devices has an inherent element of risk. The best way to reduce this risk is careful consideration of the potential problems, and thorough planning prior to the lift. The concepts of using lifting-qualified products according to the manufacturer’s design, evaluating the stresses that occur during the lift, and performing the required inspection procedures, are discussed and demonstrated. Our seminar leaders have attended the leading manufacturer sponsored courses, and are well qualified to present the material and provide advice on solving common lifting problems. Lifting Safe Operating Practices Outline

Inspection Services. Whitelaw Rigging provides inspection services tailored to customer requirements. Inspections are conducted on-site using a handheld device for input. With established customers, the handheld device includes the latest information on the customer’s lifting products including any new or repaired products supplied by Whitelaw Rigging. After the inspection, the information on the device is merged with the Lifting Products Database. From the database accurate reports are immediately generated, thereby reducing the lag time that typically occurs during clerical processing.

Sling inspections are usually conducted at the customer’s facility. The inspector will record by serial number and location the slings and below the hook items. He will then perform a thorough inspection, applying the OSHA/ASME B30 inspection criteria. Any slings or devices that are recommended for removal from service will be identified and tagged with the reason for the recommendation. A report will be provided, usually within a day or two. If a proof test certificate is required, the slings or devices must be inspected and tested at Whitelaw Rigging. Sample Inspection Report

Hoist and Crane inspections are done by our certified hoist mechanics. An inspection report will be provided describing the condition and recommendations for each hoist or crane. Sample Inspection Report

Mechanical lever and chain hoists inspections are done by our certified hoist mechanics. Usually these are done at Whitelaw Rigging, with a load test report provided.

Hoist repair. Electric chain hoists and wire rope hoists in our service area will be picked up and delivered free of charge. Some field service is available depending on hoist model and problem symptoms. Repairs in which load suspension parts have been replaced will include a load test and certificate.

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Tagging. With the exception of J-hooks and some other products where tagging would present an obstruction, we RFID tag all serialized, load rated products for tracing and identification.
The tagging system is tied into the Lifting Products Database that we maintain.
